RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE: SEASON 7, EPISODE 10 - PRANCING QUEENS

It's getting down to the wire, and so we've got to be prepared to mourn the loss of any of the remaining queens on RuPaul's Drag Race. Tonight's challenge put the queens to werk, hunny. It was one of only a few challenges that I feel like really pushed everyone. The dance challenge was not easy, and even the runway look demanded a degree of creativity.

Let's untuck some of the details of last night's episode.

Before the ladies hit the dance floor, they had to face what might be my favorite mini-challenge of the season. Maybe it's my love of the Real Housewives franchise (or, probably, my obsession with Hulu's Hotwives satire), but I adored the DIY plastic surgery mini-challenge that required the ladies to use scotch tape to modify their face and then create their own awkward Real Housewives-esque intro. All the remaining queens served up some Adrienne Maloof-realness, and I could not get enough of it, darling.

The main challenge paired up the ladies to perform a choreographed dance routine to a mash-up of two wildly divergent musical styles (e.g. country and the robot).

So how'd they do? Check it out in our rankings:

1. It might just be that Katya runs away with this whole thing. Her dancing seemed like it was going to be a disaster in rehearsals, but she turned out a great performance. It’s just one more challenge she’s crushed over the last few weeks. At this point, the crown is hers to lose.

2. (tie) Pearl may have been an, ahem, sleeper in this whole thing, but she’s been saving her best stuff for the end, apparently. Even if her dancing wasn’t, you know, perfect, she attacked every hip thrust with tons of commitment. She really benefitted from having an expert dance partner, but she still held her own. #flasaydah

2. (tie) Finally, a challenge Kennedy can truly excel at. I raved about Kennedy’s performance following her time on the stage at the season seven premiere party in NYC. Tonight’s dance-themed challenge brought out Kennedy’s show-stopping dance moves, including some of the flips and splits that made her the only queen to earn an encore in NYC earlier this year.

4. OK, so we knew going into this that this was not going to be Ginger’s strong suit, but, boy howdy, was it painful to watch. I can forgive Ginger for not being a great dancer, but someone with the stage background Ginger has should be able to PERFORM, regardless. Even Pearl overcame her two left feet to deliver a great performance. I would expect the same from Ginger.

5. Violet got a weird edit this week. There seemed to be a set up with folks like Ginger and Katya talking about how she only excels at runway that she would bungle the challenge. And yet, she was in the winning pair. Are they playing a long game to send her home next week? I think that might be the case. (Trixie was totally right, too. She looked just like Kelly Mantle with all that tape on her face.)

6. Oh, it’s a shame to see Trixie go. Considering the outrage that followed her elimination earlier this season, you would hope she would have at least made top four. Unfortunately, her dance routine with Ginger was clearly the bottom of the bunch, and, sadly, she didn’t have as much good will built up as Miss Minj. I got to give it up to Trixie, though, because I thought her runway was better than Ginger's and so was her lip sync. Yes, I said it.

How would you rank the queens this week?

WELLS FARGO FEATURE SAME-SEX COUPLE IN ADORABLE NEW ADVERT

It’s becoming more and more common for big companies to highlight their diversity credentials and forward-thinking attitudes by featuring gay people in their advertising.

In recent months, businesses as diverse as NikonCheerios and Hotwire have featured gay couples in commercials.

Now it’s Wells Fargo’s turn. The US bank is rolling out seven adverts as part of a new brand push under the banner ‘Why I Work’.

The first, revealed last week, is called ‘Learning Sign Language’. It features a female couple who are both learning sign language. The reason why? They’re about to become the new, adoptive mommies to a little girl with impaired hearing.

The commercial doesn’t fail to tug at the heartstrings while at the same time demonstrate the diverse nature of Wells Fargo’s clients. It’s the bank’s first national ad campaign to feature a same-sex couple.

Other adverts in the series feature a Hispanic family who run a small business, with another aimed at promoting the bank’s retirement products to seniors.

‘We've been serving these communities, but we hadn't really told that story,’ said Jamie Moldafsky, CMO of Wells Fargo, to  AdAge.

‘We understand that there are needs that are really unique to them. ... We will only be successful if we mirror the community and population that we serve.’

This is not, it should be noted, the first time Wells Fargo has spoken out in support of diversity and inclusion.

Its staff routinely take part in Pride events across the US and the company has also provided training to employees on how to advise same-sex couples and domestic partners, as well as people managing adoption. It has also helped to promote anti-bullying initiatives in schools.

The company – ranked the eighth biggest company in the world by Forbes last year – has consistently scored 100% in Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for the past 12 years.

The bank has approximately 265,000 employees in 36 countries, with around $1.7 trillion (€1.5 trillion) in assets.

‘Our marketing programs and content reflect our company's values, and represent the diversity of the communities we serve,’ said Wells Fargo spokesman Ruben Pulido to BizJournal. ‘Wells Fargo's support for the LGBT community aligns with our broader commitment to diversity.’

The sign language advert was created by ad agency BBDO, who were appointed by Wells Fargo last year. Its executive creative director, Matt Miller, told AdAge that he was at first apprehensive that the bank – might resist the idea behind the latest campaign. However, the reverse was true and they embraced the concept.

‘We never set out to make a spot about a lesbian couple,’ he said. ‘We set out to reflect the modern world this campaign lives in.’

‘This campaign is attempting to illuminate the soul of Wells Fargo and just show the reality of the bank and bank business.

‘Coming along to the brand with fresh eyes and having only seen it as a very rational thing. It didn't match up. They were very driven by emotional connections to their customers.’

WE ALL HAVE FRONT-LINE WORK TO DO

We are here to protect our people from disorder, chaos and anything else which contradicts universal order. We are here to uproot all that which is evil from within our consciousness and community.
Know that in war there are no civilians. What this means here is even more critical for our salvation as a people. Unlike in our traditions when the warrior class was limited to specific age groups who were best physically able, no one who is conscious of the assault and aware of their ancestral responsibilities to build and sustain an Human reality wherever Afrikans are found is exempt from these warrior responsibilities.
We all have work on this front-line. You solve a problem through creating and carrying out a solution, not endlessly complaining and debating about it.

TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL FAMILY EQUALITY DAY!

On May 3, 2015, LGBTQ family organizations from around the world will join forces, for the fourthtime, to increase the international visibility of LGBTQ families.

Regardless of different legal, political and social circumstances around the world, the dramatic increase in the numbers of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ) people choosing to raise children is a global phenomenon.

In July 2011, LGBTQ family activists from around the world gathered for the first ever International Symposium of LGBTQ parenting organizations. The symposium provided an opportunity to establish ongoing international cooperation in areas such as research, visibility and advocacy, and the development of resources and programs for LGBTQ families worldwide. One of the key outcomes was the establishment of the International Family Equality Day, which will take place every year on the first Sunday in May.

You Still Heart My Blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4736 blog entries and can safely say that I have now amassed a body of work that can safely be called "pointlessly unique." In the history of literary efforts, there has never been a literary effort quite like this one. Okay, literary might be pushing it, but I don't think I'm engaging in hyperbole when I say that it's highly unlikely my achievement will ever be duplicated, let alone surpassed. Why?

Well, most of the bloggers that left have better things to do and those of us that are left (a goodly number), are simply compelled to vomit up daily offerings of painfully personal, petty, mock-metaphysical, self-congratulatory, rage-filled, and regretfully sarcastic entries that occasionally haunt us forever, but I digress.

Anyway, I wanted to use this momentous entry to celebrate my accomplishment because, well... no one else was jumping up to do it :-)
