Lorde's "Team" is the official second US single from the
New Zealand-born singer's debut album "Pure Heroine". On an interview
with Billboard, Lorde commented of the song that there are lyrics where she
feels like the 'realistic' pop star, and others that show her unique
songwriting, going back to write for her and her friends.
When I listen to Team, I hear a call for compassion. It’s a call
for the oppressor and the oppressed to join one another on level ground, to
stand together rather than exist in a power-over, power-under dynamic. Whether
you’re a greedy dictator, a violent abuser, or the bully at the playground, Team
is about recognizing we’re all on equal playing field.
