One of the
greatest challenges that gay men face can be summed up in two little words:
coming out. No matter at what age we come to terms with our sexuality, whether
it’s at adolescence or much later in life, it can be a heavy burden to bear –
and confiding in a friend or close family member isn’t always as easy as it
sounds.
But our society
has evolved and attitudes towards gay people have improved. So why does coming
out remain a big issue today?
I think that it is easier to come out today. There are shows that portray gay characters, the Internet provides access to information and society (in general) is much more accepting.
ReplyDeleteHowever, that really doesn't count for much when you consider how intensely personal coming out is for someone. It is hard to underscore the stress and worry that precedes coming out for many people *yours truly included*. Hopefully that will be less of an issue with each passing generation.
