Michael Sam,
the first out athlete to be drafted by the National Football League, has been
picked to participate in the league's first scouting session for veterans.
According to NFL.com,
the University of Missouri graduate will be part of next month's Veteran
Scouting Combine (22 March).
'Glad to be a
part of the NFL Veteran Free Agent Combine,' Sam tweeted on 27 February,
according to NFL.com. 'Working hard to show up big time! Have a safe weekend
all!'
According to
NFL.com, 'the veteran combine [is] a project aimed at giving a second chance to
players who have washed out of the NFL too quickly.'
Last year, Sam
was drafted by the St. Louis Rams then cut after playing for the team in the
preseason.
The Dallas
Cowboys then signed him for its practice squad; he was cut a month later.
Earlier this
week, the free agent announced he would compete on ABC's
show Dancing With the Stars. The program's first episode is less than a
week after the combine.
Sam maintains
football is his first priority.
