Following the
performance, fans and celebrities alike celebrated the moment, but not everyone
was pleased. TMZ gained access to three complaints that
were filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about the
performance.
The first one
was from the Bronx: “I was very disturbed to see 2 men practically having
sexual in the stage when the awards show is supposed to be a family show. It’s
ridiculous and children and adults are being forced to endure this.
Unacceptable and I will be unsubscribing from BET network. DISGUSTING AND
DISTURBING!!!!!!!!”
Another viewer
in Oklahoma wrote, “During a performance 2 gay men kissed. Why are you showing
this on tv. It is disgusting and wrong for kids to see because it’s unnatural.”
Another
complaint was filed from someone in Philadelphia about the “Satanism” in Nas’s
performance.
“Satanism
shouldn’t be broadcast on a family oriented award show,” it said.
The same
complaint took aim at Cardi B, who revealed her pregnancy on stage. “Also, a
woman that proudly admitted to drugging
and robbing men shouldn’t be celebrated. And it’s highly unacceptable
for a pregnant woman to be performing sexually. What message does that send to
our kids? It’s disgusting!”
The person who
filed that complaint was referring to what Cardi B has already referred to as
“poor choices” she made in the past because she “had to do to survive.”
Nas also
received significant backlash on Twitter, but as always seems to be the case, he wasn’t fazed and clapped
back to the haters.
i’m sorry but the
thought of niggas sitting their kids down in the living room and telling them
gay people exist is so hilarious to me https://t.co/8ESprtirAy

y’all hate
yourselves so much. y’all live your lives trying your best to appease straight
ppl. y’all are uncomfortable with what i do because y’all are afraid they will
be uncomfortable with you. work on yourselves, i love who i am and whatever i
decide to do. get there. https://t.co/oHoYkux98F

you’re right i am
insecure about my sexuality. i still have a long way to go. i’ve never denied
that. when you’re conditioned by society to hate yourself your entire life it
takes a lot of unlearning. which is exactly why i do what i do. https://t.co/PtiehZdDGS

Nas also
thanked those who have supported and celebrated him, tweeting, “it took me a
lot of time to mentally prepare for this performance. while on stage i was
trembling knowing that i was performing something like that in front of my
straight peers. even during the performance i was having a hard time calming my
nerves. thank you guys for the love.”

I adore him. Such a warrior. He's taking activism to a new level. Historically, he will go down as one of the greats. And such a talent.
