The wait is now over - the video for the new gay anthem "Born This Way" is here. But before we get to the video let's think about the song. Born This Way[the single] is a celebration of being and loving who you are. The lyrics and vocals are just powerful. The chorus starts
"I'm beautiful in my way,
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way "
What a testament to those who feel like they aren't good enough that they have shortcomings or those who feel there is no place for them in this world
I love that this song is number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart [1,000th #1 single] and still number one on iTunes [fastest selling single on iTunes ever]. When has there been a song with lyrics:
"No matter gay, straight or bi
lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born to survive "
at the top of music charts in the USA - simply never.
There have been some comparison of this song with Madonna's "Express yourself" I do feel that the beats to both songs are similar and the theme of loving yourself is throughout both pieces but the lyrics to "Born this Way" go deeper it's about a fight, a resistance, a rite it's about those who the world would want to beat down but won't stay down.
I love the video but I must admit the birthing parts are a bit too much for me: something about slime and vagina just doesn't resonate - it's been quite a while since my own birth - needless to say I haven't gone back.
I love the choreography in this video Laurie Ann Gibson does a great job - I do feel like I've seen this somewhere - parts of it flows like ice skating or ballroom dancing to me: it gives the feel of ballet dancers dancing around on a stage.
I like the wardrobe [or lack thereof] I feel Lady Gaga would be naked if it wouldn't have been censored. The alien queen costume is wonderful.
The video is showing the presence of duality in the world [the good & the evil] at the introduction / narrative of the video she says "How can I protect something so perfect without evil?" that statement makes me: really think and we all know there is a lot of evil that has been done in the name of good in this history of this world.
The crotch play in this video is unlimited from giving birth to a machine gun to remembering Michalel Jackson. Gaga also pays tribute to Madonna and fashion designer Thierry Muglar - below photo is from Muglar's recent show - we see that Gaga has been inspired by designer's work & by his accounts he is inspired by her in his work
Did I mention the strawberry blonde hair? That's evil
"Born this Way" [the album] will be released May 23, 2011
