Move over America’s Next Top Model, a new reality show’s in town and
it might just win our hearts over.
Whoopi
Goldberg’s ‘Strut’ is a modelling reality show and all its contestants are
transgender individuals.
‘Our models
come from all walks of life, all different backgrounds and ethnicities,’ said
Goldberg. ‘They are struggling with things we can all relate to – trying to
make ends meet, fighting to make a name for themselves and navigating the
minefields of personal relationships.’
The 60-year-old
award-winning actress and executive producer of the show added: ‘All of these
struggles are amplified by the fact that they are also fighting to break down
barriers and taking on the responsibility of representing the transgender
community in today’s society. It’s time to separate caricature from real
people and that’s what we are doing with “Strut.”‘
The show works
with Slay Model Management, the world’s first exclusively transgender
modelling agency.
The models
featured are: Laith De La Cruz, Dominique Jackson, Isis King, Ren Spriggs and Arisce Wanzer.
‘A decade ago
you were hiding on the runway – but now it’s a new age,’ Jackson said in
the trailer.
The show
premieres 20 September on Oxygen.
‘These models
are transforming the runway and redefining what it means to follow your dreams.
I think you’ll laugh, and I think you’ll THINK,’ Goldberg said of the
show.
