Canon Mpho
Tutu, the daughter of famous civil rights activist and Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
married her longterm partner in a civil ceremony in the Netherlands, Thursday.
Tutu married
Marceline Furth: a professor in pediatric infectious diseases at the Vrije
University in Amsterdam – and who holds the Desmond Tutu chair in medicine at
the university.
Tutu is an
Episcopal priest and the executive director of the Desmond & Leah Tutu
Legacy Foundation.
The family
released a brief statement, saying: ‘The couple are very grateful to their families
and friends for their love and support.’
Desmond Tutu,
now retired, has fought tirelessly for civil rights and been a stoical ally of
the African LGBTI community, including opposing the ‘Kill the gays’ bill in
Uganda.
His daughter
recently presided over her father and mother as they retook their vows after
sixty years of marriage.
She was
previously married to Joseph Burris and has two children from that marriage.
Thank you for sharing this. The love of their families serves as a shining example to families everywhere!
