The top and bottom dichotomy is something we gay men are intimately aware of. It’s something that’s spawned a lot of biases and preconceived notions, some of which most gay guys believe in without thinking twice about it.
Do you guys believe that tops enjoy privileges that bottoms don’t?
Do you think that tops expect too much from bottoms?
Remember back in the day when straights would ask a gay couple which one was 'the boy'? A lot of privilege has to do with that basic assumption... that gay sex is hetero sex. Which, it is not. But tops buy into that whole alpha male - I am more masculine bullshit pretty easily. As if a bottom could not be masculine. Then there is the shaming... how many times have you been teased that your a 'dirty bottom'? Or a worthless bottom? Or the old joke about Minnesota - land of 10,000 bottoms... because we are all alike? That's another assumption. I get it, we role play and that leaks into everyday perceptions... but - it's not right.
