Premium cable network HBO on Friday released a full trailer for The Normal Heart, director Ryan Murphy's film adaptation of Larry Kramer's Tony-winning play about the early days of the AIDS pandemic in New York City.
HBO will premiere the film on Sunday, May 25.
The film features an all-star cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.
Ruffalo – a co-star of the 2010 lesbian moms flick The Kids Are Alright – will tackle his first gay role playing Ned Weeks, the hero of Kramer's play.
“I've never seen or heard of anything like this,” Roberts' character of Dr. Emma Brookner declares in the 90-second trailer. “This seems to only be happening to gay men.”
Ruffalo's Weeks asserts in a television interview that the government is conspiring to kill all gay men.
In the trailer's final frames, the characters played by Ruffalo and Bomer appear on a dock.
“You can't stop fighting for the ones you love,” Ruffalo says in a voice over.
Minorities are the ones in which the number of new HIV infections are affecting. The Caucasian community the number have leveled off so will this message reach minorities living with AIDS. I Doubt it but let's see!
