I AM...

I am whatever YOU think I am until YOU get to KNOW me. This is true for everyone else too, of course.. so don't make assumptions about anyone or pass judgment; ask questions. You might just make a new friend.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”  Many people adhere to this mantra on a daily basis.  They are willing to take risks and try different things.  Others choose to remain in their secure environments; never really looking beyond their safe situations and their false sense of stability.

Risk and taking a chance on something that is unknown is a hard concept for many to fathom.  In many cases a person’s individuality has been compromised to the point where they are afraid to look beyond their current situation and see what may be possible, given a little courage and tenacity to step forward out of their comfort zones.  They have handed over their inherent right to choose for themselves to someone else who may not have their best interests at heart.

In these uncertain economic times, many people are finding out that their employers are not as benevolent as they seemed to be when times were better.  Many are discovering that under more dire circumstances many employers abandon their commitment to their employees and don’t put much credence in longevity or the employee’s best interests when the bottom line is at stake.  Employees are becoming mere commodities with a value by which to determine how much can be saved if a particular employee leaves their position.

Such economic realities are forcing individuals to look beyond their current situations for other options and possibilities.  They are being forced to take a risk and take chances on things that they may not otherwise have ever thought of doing.

When one is in the closet, an individual is much less likely to venture forward to gain a higher level of personal greatness or look at other options and possibilities because, unlike when one’s personal economic well being is at stake, there is no real external pressure to come out.  As is the case with a job, being in the closet can foster a false sense of security.  It is a sheltered, contained environment that does not lend itself to personal growth and exploration of what it means to be true to oneself.

Every closeted individual has a choice to either to live and function in their facades of false security or take a risk and take a chance on themselves, and come out and be who they are supposed to be.  Which choice are you going to make?
