Yesterday
may have sucked
politically, but here's your feel-good moment of the day.
Here's
the deal: Tuesday morning, Lea DeLaria, who plays the charmingly rambunctious
lesbian Big Boo on Orange Is the New Black, proved she's in tune
with her on-screen counterpart when she shut down a homophobic preacher on an
NYC subway on her way to the "Sesame Street" set.
The
preacher was, well, preaching, when DeLaria stood up in her
"Bad Jew" t-shirt and told the man that he had "no right"
to "force-feed" his religious beliefs to his fellow New Yorkers.
She
also tells the man that he's the reason America's in trouble, which prompts him
to make a reference to Sodom and Gomorrah and the "sin of
homosexuality" which, in turn, causes DeLaria to throw up her arms in
frustration and eventually yell "now he calls me a dyke, ladies and
gentlemen!"
The
standoff between the two is actually pretty epic, although that must have been
a rather uncomfortable train ride for the rest of the commuters who bore
witness to the confrontation.
The
video is after the break. Big Boo would be proud.
