Actor Jeff Perry has joined the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC)
Americans for Marriage Equality campaign.
In a 1-minute clip released Thursday, the 59-year-old Perry says
he's straight but plays a gay husband on TV, a reference to his portrayal of
Cyrus Beene on the ABC drama Scandal. Cyrus' now dead husband was
played by out actor Dan Bucatinsky.
“I'm a straight man who plays a married gay dad on TV,” Perry says.
“Cyrus and James had a pretty scandalous relationship, what with Cyrus being an
evil political genius who set the love of his life up for an affair, planted
incriminating photos, sabotaged his career-defining moment and almost took a
hit out on James.”
“But in parts of this country what stands out to some people is not
that Cyrus is an awesomely conflicted villain, but the fact that they were
married at all.”
“Whether you're a gay husband or just a guy playing one on TV, you
deserve the right to get married no matter what,” he adds.
Good for him! Thanks, buddy!
