Dec. 21st marks the Winter
Solstice. It is the day when the sun will appear, to those of us in the
northern hemisphere, to reach the southernmost point of its journey, making it
the darkest and shortest day of the year. The sun will also appear to ‘stand
still’ for three days, before it begins its slow but steady march... northward on or
near Dec. 25th. Solstice in fact comes from the latin 'sol', which means sun,
and 'sistere', which means "to stand still".
