I AM...

I am whatever YOU think I am until YOU get to KNOW me. This is true for everyone else too, of course.. so don't make assumptions about anyone or pass judgment; ask questions. You might just make a new friend.

HIV/AIDS 40 YEARS ON: IT’S TIME TO END THE EPIDEMIC

United States’ theme for this year is “Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access, Everyone’s Voice” (“El tema de este año para WAD se confirma como: Poner fin a la epidemia de VIH: acceso equitativo, la voz de todos”). The theme, says HIV.gov, “highlights the Biden-Harris Administration’s strong commitment to ending the HIV epidemic globally by addressing health inequities and ensuring the voices of people with HIV are central in all our work.”

Meanwhile, the global theme for this year’s World AIDS Day 2021 observance is “End inequalities. End AIDS.” WHO explained that “reaching people left behind,” is their particular focus and that the organization, together with their partners, is “highlighting the growing inequalities in access to essential HIV services.”

Take a look at the global HIV and AIDS statistics today below (Source: World Health Organization):

·         37,700,000 – is the estimated number of people across the globe who are living with HIV in 2020

·         680,000 – is the total number of people who died from HIV-related illnesses worldwide in 2020

·         1,500,000 – total number of people globally who were newly infected in 2020

·         73% of people living with HIV received lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART) last year

But how can we, as private citizens, help out in the fight against HIV/AIDS?

We can donate to organizations like the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation that aims for an “AIDS-free world.”
