I AM...

I am whatever YOU think I am until YOU get to KNOW me. This is true for everyone else too, of course.. so don't make assumptions about anyone or pass judgment; ask questions. You might just make a new friend.

BLACK GAY PRIDE...

Around this time each year I start to see tweets, Facebook statuses and blogs debating the current relevance of Pride events. Those who doubt the need for such events usually talk about the fact that they have become corporate circuses and are now focused around partying and getting drunk.

To understand Pride and it’s significance we need to take a step outside of our own experience and look at the bigger picture. Of course, I’m not trying to convince anyone that they should attend a Black Pride event if they really don’t want to, but I do think it’s useful to provide an alternative view of what Pride is for.

As black people we shouldn’t need that affirmation but unfortunately, living in a world we have today, many of us still do.

There’s no doubt that over the years Black Pride events have changed. They are a great opportunity for corporate organizations and public services to show their support as well as showcasing how far they’ve come in becoming more inclusive for LGBT people.

Are Black Gay Pride events still needed?

  1. Yes. If they very well supported by out community. I've never been to one. They were cancelled for permit nonsense or just too far and expensive. Or the organizaters wanted only the young and beautiful. So it must provide a safe atmosphere for all homo black men AND homo black women as well.
